Since 1986, Florida’s specialty license plate program has raised over $500 million for worthy causes and over 1.3 million Floridians annually participate in the program. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has authorized the issuance of specialty license plate gift certificates. This new program allows anyone to purchase a specialty license plate as a gift. The specialty plate organization receives the annual use fee immediately when the Gift Certificate is purchased and registered - regardless of whether the gift certificate is redeemed. If the recipient renews the plate every year for the life of the plate - the charitable organization/state agency receives 10 times the original user fee donation contained in the Gift Certificate.
